Painter and printmaker Ann McGee is the featured artist, in September, at the Guild Room in Gallery Los Olivos. Relatively “new” to the Santa Ynez Valley, Ann’s work is inspired by the various locales she has lived. Born in New Orleans, she received a B.F.A. from Boston College, and was living in Hawaii before moving to Santa Ynez three years ago with her husband and 16-year old daughter. McGee also has two other grown daughters.
She credits living and learning in all these places with shaping who she is as well as the images she makes. “Printmaking is generally a collaborative process of art making and there were many wonderful, informative partners in all these places,” she says.“I love the newest process I am using, which I resisted for many years.” The process is solar plate, and involves photography and to some extent a computer. For me, this is a real departure,” she concludes.
