Artist Bio: Growing up on a ranch in Ventura County in the mid-Twentieth Century, I had the good fortune to ride horseback across a similar landscape, before the suburbs and freeways encroached on our ranch home, replacing grazing land and citrus groves with malls, housing tracts & freeways.
When I moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in 1989 I felt like I’d come home. Although I had been a visual artist for most of my life, I returned to drawing and painting with a passion, inspired by the spacious beauty of this place and eager to record it before it too disappeared.
I am attracted to landscape that evokes a certain mood or mystery. I look for subject matter that suggests atmosphere. In California Hills, extreme light and shadow and a horizontal composition heighten the dramatic effect of the cool, dark canyons against the late afternoon golden hills.
Currently represented by Easton Gallery, Santa Barbara, and Young’s Gallery, Los Olivos.
